I bought the Better Homes and Gardens Ultimate Cookies & Bars magazine last fall and until tonight haven't made anything from it. Based on what I had available at home I narrowed it down to this recipe.
Poppy Seed Thumbprints
1 c butter, softened
1/2 c sugar
2 egg yolks
1 tbsp orange liquor
2 2/3 c flour
2 tbsp poppy seeds
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 c strawberry jam (I used more)
Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks and liquor. Beat well. Combine dry ingredients. Gradually add to mixture (LOVE MY KITCHEN AID FOR THIS) until just combined.
Shape dough into 1" balls (I used my small scoop).
Place 1" apart on cookie sheet. (They don't really spread.) Make indent in each cookie (I used my melon baller). Fill with jam.
Bake at 350 for 12 minutes.

NOTES:
The cookies are quite dry and crack. They looked like that in the picture so I might try less flour next time to see what happens.
If you like shortbread you will like these.
